Help Determine Green Candidates for Office

In the Fall 2002 election, Greens ran an excellent candidate for Governor, Peter Miguel Camejo. Not only was Peter an intelligent, insightful, and honest candidate, he is also the first Hispanic candidate for Governor of California. Peter won 5% of the overall vote, and in San Francisco and in Mendocino County, he came in first, ahead of both Gray Davis and Bill Simon. In addition, the Green Party for the first time ran a full slate of excellent candidates for all major state offices in California.

Post-election results indicated that huge numbers of Democrats crossed over to vote with Greens in this election, and Green voter registration is up across the state. The Green Party is growing in numbers, strength, visibility, and political efficacy.

You can help make a difference in the future of Humboldt County and California by getting actively involved with the Humboldt Greens, and helping us locate good Green candidates for office. Some offices are very part-time and would leave plenty of time to pursue your occupation. Others, such as County Supervisor, pay very well for Humboldt County: a Supervisor's salary is currently around $60,000 per year! How many of you could help save the world for that kind of money?

In particular, the Greens would love to have a good, strong candidate to replace Roger Rodoni from the 2nd District. We'd also love to have great challengers in the 1st and 3rd Districts, too. If you would make a good candidate or if you know a Humboldt Green who would, please come out of the woodwork and help the party become even stronger.

The best way to get involved is to attend a local, County Council, or General Assembly meeting to let other Greens know of your interest and to begin discussing her, his, or your own prospects as a candidate.
